SFW Washington Benbella Emerging Designer Competition Named finalist for SFW & Awards show

Ten emerging designers from around the nation have been chosen as finalist for the 10th SFW Washington Benbella Emerging Designer Competition. The finalist selected from a pool of around thirty entries, will present their collections at the Swahili Fashion week & Awards  show to be held on 1,2,3 December in Dar es Salaam Tanzania.
 “The 10th Edition of WB-EDC has been one of a kind. Not only was it competitive but also astounding. The 10 finalists truly characterize attributes of this year’s theme. All eyes and ears of fashion fans are wide open for their first ever designed attires during the 10th Anniversary celebration. This year’s selection committee, made up of Jamilla vera Swai (Designer), Samuel Zebadayo (Designer), alongside fashion stylist Rio Paul, were impressed with unique sketch and quality fabrics Coming from youth who are eager to takeover fashion industry
Over the past ten years, since it started in 2008, Swahili Fashion Week Washington Benbella Emerging Designers competition has gathered over thousand talented young designers from across Africa who continue to practice sustainable fashion designs, Launching their own brands and showcasing collections on catwalks across the world. The following are the past winners Shaabaz Sayeed (2016), Kulwa Mkwandule (2015), Medrad Mlowe (2014), Bhoke Chacha (2013), Philista Onyang’o (2012), Subira Wahure (2010), 2jenge Africa Mataley (2009) and Edwin Musiba (2008).

Friendships and long-term collaborations are often forged behind the scenes as finalists take advantage of the unique networking opportunities with big designers and fashion industry elites who will be available to them.” Stated Swahili Fashion Week Fashion Coordinator, Lightness Kitua.
The panel of judges set and picked the first selection of 10 contestant who are Liberatha Alibalio, Charity Nyaimaga, Maryimmaculate Gervace, Emmanuel Kisusi, Agness Sixbeabeatus, Mohammed Juma, Anjali Borkhataria, Edina Ibrahim, Gisela Kaguo, Jackline Ottaru. The process will continue until they find a winner of Swahili fashion week emerging designer 2017 who will be announced on the third and the last day of Swahili fashion week 2017 which will held at National Museum from 1st to 3rd December 2017.
