Shopping
is one of those activities, that cant be avoided if you love fashion and style
,but what about doing your shopping with
some live performance, it sounds awesome right!! On 27th December
2017 as I was going around Mlimani city Mall ,hunting the end of the year Sales
,I came across a sidewalk performer by the name Steve Njama, his voice caught my
attention and made me wonder whats the story behind this incredible talent
Steven Njama who is professionally an accountant and his Manager Saycris
Simon a Microbiologist ,their love for music brought them together and came out
with the idea of performing on sidewalks and malls, they started performing at
Mlimani City Mall ,since 23rd December 2017 to 2nd
January 2018,with the performance titled “Hisia,Sauti na Gitaa”,this performance
featured Almost all kind of music like Jazz, blues, reggae, cover songs and acoustic
music .Steven took music serious from high school and has written and recorded some
of his original songs which are breathtaking simply because he writes based on
reality and the Truth.
On
his breaktime I managed to have a small chat with him and we talked a lot upon
music and his performance ,here is our Q&A
MP. How would you define a best artist?
S.Njama: A person with Clear intention, unwavering
dedication, patience, perseverance, self awareness and the drive to make for
oneself and no one else.
M P; What does music mean to you?
S.Njama :It means a lot since, Music is a language that anyone can understand unlike
words, sequences of notes are free to convey pure emotion, unfettered by the
need for semantic understanding. Hence music requires less mental processing
power than language, and music in its simplest form Music is central to the
notion of what it is to be human, and spans cultures, continents and centuries
M.P. what are your favorite song to
sing?
S.Njama :My songs, Hill songs
M.P: Tanzania and music, what do you
have to say about these two?
S.Njama:In last few years the music has advanced much and in next few years to
come there will be a bigger step further in Tanzanian music industry
M.P :Why did you choose mlimani city
mall?
S,Njama :Mlimani city Mall is an international place and our goals and visions
are to grow internationally, also there
are many people who come to Mlimani city and we are sure there will be many who
loves our music.by the way our next
target is Mkuki mall, if we get the permit.
MP:What was the best moment in
performing at Mlimani city?
S.Njama :The day before Christmas because we had many fans than ever before.
M.P :What has been the benefit of
performing on the sidewalks
S.Njama:We have built Connections and network from variety of people that has helped
us in our exposure.
MP:Any challenges so far?
S.Njama :We are still at the starting point, hence we need a lot of equipments ,so
we may be able to provide quality music, we need advanced combo speaker,
microphone and stands.

MP :What keeps you going despite all the
difficulties you face?
S,Njama: We know Life won’t always go the way you want it to,
but when it comes down to it, you have the same 24 hours in the day as everyone
else does. Successful people make their time count. Instead of complaining
about how things could have been or should have been, they reflect on
everything they have to be grateful for. Then they find the best solution
available, tackle the problem, and move on.thats what keeps us going on
MP:What are the best ways to maintain
your singing voice?
S.Njama :
1.
Drink plenty of water. Six to eight glasses a
day is recommended.
2.
Limit your intake of drinks that contain alcohol
or caffeine, which can cause the body to lose water and make the vocal folds
and larynx dry. Alcohol also irritates the mucous membranes that line the
throat.
3.
Avoid or
limit use of medications that dry out the vocal folds, including some common
cold and allergy medications. If you have voice problems, ask your doctor which
medications would be safest for you to use.
MP.What Message do you have to young
artists?
S.Njama :Do not fear failure but rather fear not
trying, when the going gets tough, put one foot in front of the other and just
keep going. Don’t give up
