MTV & KWAZULU-NATAL PROVINCE GIVE A HELPING HAND TO CONTEMPORARY MUSICIANS & MUSIC STUDENTS
MTV AFRICA ALL STARS KWAZULU-NATAL MUSIC INDUSTRY WORKSHOP
Durban, 9 May 2013: Music industry hopefuls who see themselves as the next DJ Tira, 2Face or Fally Ipupa, and who are looking to establish a productive career are getting a helping hand from the upcoming MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal Music Industry workshop.
The youth empowerment workshop, which happens in tandem with all star concert MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal with Snoop Lion, will be held at the Playhouse, Durban on Friday 17 May between 09:30 am and 2 pm.

Put together by music channel MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) & KwaZulu-Natal Province, the free workshop gives insights into the music business, tapping into the expertise of established musicians, managers and industry insiders.  Topics under consideration will include “Getting Out There”, a module which discusses innovative ways for musicians to promote themselves and their music, “Music and Money” a session on how to monetise your product, and “Bands as Brands”.
More than 300 students and up-and-coming musicians from the Durban area have been invited to attend the workshop.
Among the music industry heavyweights participating in the workshop will be:
·         Award-winning South African recording artist and producer DJ Cleo
·         Efe Omorogbe, manager to Nigerian superstar 2Face
·         Congolese“Sexy Dance” sensation Fally Ipupa and his manager Madina Djoboungue
·         Gagasi FM programming manager Vukile Zondi
·         Celebrity PR supremo Farah Fortune
·         Tonya Merritt, manager to D’Banj
·         Refiloe Ramogase, manager to Kuli Chana and TKZee  

Representing MTV Base will be Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, who will be joining the “Getting Out There” panel, and MTV legal representative Alishia Chotu, who will participate in the “Music and Money” session.
The sessions will be moderated by MTV VJ Sizwe Dhlomo.
